Western Railroad Discussion > "git 'er done" Nebraska style...Date: 06/30/20 14:20 "git 'er done" Nebraska style... Author: binder001 Today my travels took me through Mead, NE and I HAD to see if there was anything on the UP branchline. I missed the branch train but did find the local elevator's switcher out in the open (cloudy, but out with no obstructions). Just another second hand GP10 but wait, ther's more! The cab has been air conditioned with a couple window a/c units attached (via extension cords) to a small generator on the left running board. Creative solutions are the hallmark of western agribuisiness!
Gary B. Waverly, NE Date: 06/30/20 15:09 Re: "git 'er done" Nebraska style... Author: callum_out As I remember Mead is on the Nebraska Central, the unit shown appears to being to Frontier who also owns the co-op in North Fremont.
They have an ex-BRC GP-7 still in Belt Railway paint, and interestingly load grain into containers on site for export. Out Date: 06/30/20 16:31 Re: "git 'er done" Nebraska style... Author: wjpyper Looks like somebody's school bus didn't get its annual paint job.

Mead, NE is on the Lincoln Branch, the remaining stub of the Beatrice Branch that used to connect with the Gibbon Cut Off at Marysville, KS. Now the line goes from Valley, NE to Lincoln. The Omaha Lincoln and Beatrice Railway is the local agent for UP. OL&B is a small switching outfit that is owned by a construction company. A number of the actual car deliveries are done by BNSF. UP runs a tri-weekly local to and from Lincoln. Date: 06/30/20 20:43 Re: "git 'er done" Nebraska style... Author: callum_out Thanks for the correction.
