Western Railroad Discussion > Here, There And Everywhere On The MRLDate: 07/28/20 07:02 Here, There And Everywhere On The MRL Author: Ohiorailfan Not to be forgotten is our time on the Montana Rail Link. On our way out on the 12th we were lucky and caught up to the Laurel to Misoula freight near Garrison with 2 SD70ACes. We followed it west a little bit before stopping at Missoula. We then spent our time out further west before returning on the 17th after the POVA to see the Night Gas Local. Power for the local was the usual pair of clean SD70ACes as they traversed the 10th sub to Paradise. On the 18th we started our day east of Missoula where we found the ML with a nice pair of SD70ACes and followed them to Mullan Pass where we then spent a few hours before starting our way east. On the 19th we spent a couple hours on Bozeman Pass before making our way east to Bismarck. MRL was fairly slow with traffic, but what we saw was impressive. Enjoy!
LM just west of Garrison on the Juy 12th Date: 07/28/20 07:03 Re: Here, There And Everywhere On The MRL Author: Ohiorailfan Date: 07/28/20 07:04 Re: Here, There And Everywhere On The MRL Author: Ohiorailfan Date: 07/28/20 07:06 Re: Here, There And Everywhere On The MRL Author: Ohiorailfan Date: 07/28/20 07:07 Re: Here, There And Everywhere On The MRL Author: Ohiorailfan Date: 07/28/20 07:09 Re: Here, There And Everywhere On The MRL Author: Ohiorailfan Date: 07/28/20 07:11 Re: Here, There And Everywhere On The MRL Author: Ohiorailfan On the 18th we found the ML just east of Missoula. They worked Garrison for 30 minutes before heading towards Helena

Mid train helpers on a loaded oil at Austin another helper set at Elliston with a loaded coal train Date: 07/28/20 07:18 Re: Here, There And Everywhere On The MRL Author: Ohiorailfan cutting off the helpers
the 1st helper sets crew died at Elliston so the second set had to bring that power down thus allowing for an 8 pack of SD70ACes Date: 07/28/20 07:19 Re: Here, There And Everywhere On The MRL Author: Ohiorailfan Date: 07/28/20 07:21 Re: Here, There And Everywhere On The MRL Author: Ohiorailfan On the 19th we caught a BNSF work train being shoved up Bozeman Pass then a eastbound freight with mid train helpers. One of the helpers was MRL SDP40-2XR #290. Also a work train in the siding east of Livingston

Scenic is certainly what the MRL is - mile-for-mile the most scenic railroad in the US.
