Being reported in tonight's Wall Street journal Blackstone is going to make an offer for Kansas City southern.

I've never known Blackstone and related groups to be good. UP Accounting Dept people claimed that C&NW was cashless when UP purchased them.

Private equity usally results in cannibalization. Buy KCS and sell it to UP-BNSF joint company?

I believe Blackstone (and UP) are the ones that saved the C&NW from being dismantled piece by piece by some OTHER corporate raider.  Ultimately, UP had acquired enough of an interest in C&NW that once they decided to finish the deal, there was little that C&NW and Blackstone could do about it.
