Seems like a lot of train for a single loco. All down hill ?

Which brings up a question in my mind: If a double stack container train is moving EMPTY containers, is is considered empty or loaded? Hmmmm?  ×

Loaded.  There are containers in the freight cars, so the cars are loaded.   By and large, the container companies are hired to haul the freight, the railroads are hired to haul the containers.

Nice flat Texas track and the containers appear to be empty. Looks like a Repro move.

Since it's a westbound, it's all uphill, slightly.  However, as others have posted, the containers are probably all empties.  They're all international boxes.  The APL boxes at the head end of the train struck me, however.  BNSF hasn't gotten that contract away from UP have they?

Guessing that it is "loaded". I imagine that the point here is that, if there are no containers in wells, then the train is "empties". 

The "loaded" --- "empty" matter refers to the container cars having, or not having, containers....yes?

l believe you are correct.  If a container well or spine car has a box on it, it is a load.  I once saw a video of a "bare table" train that had a trailer on every platform.  All considered loads, but the trailers were empty.  Go figure.

Unlike a bare table move, empty boxes are a revenue move. Loaded more revenue though.

But since a loaded box is typically "FAK" (Freight of All Kinds), there's no opportunity to price by cargo value. The 3PL or IMC gets to leverage that insight.
