UP Engineering Special in NE Kansas
Author: bnsfsd70

This morning, I got out to photograph the UP 4222 leading the PHNCB through my neck of the woods, and was happy to have gotten it at three locations; Topeka, Lawrence, and Bonner Springs. All three turned out fairly well, but I think the Lawrence shot is the best of the group.

Photo 1: Topeka, having just entered the KS Sub from the Topeka Sub less than a mile behind it. From what I heard on the radio, it sounded like they stopped to pick somebody up here as well, which I thought was interesting.

Photo 2: Rounding Don Ball curve in Lawrence, rolling by the ex-UP depot, which now serves as a Visitor's Center and event space.

Photo 3: Closer to Kansas City, the special is heading by the Kansas River bluffs in Bonner Springs, KS.

Thanks for looking!

They're all winners Jeff. I love your effort to shoot different angles and the Topeka skyline in no.1. (but I'm prejudiced when my birthplace is displayed).

Well, I can say it was a good day.

After going out to shoot the eastbound UP special this morning, I ran out after lunch to nab the UP 1988 rolling into Topeka from North Platte.  This is the MNPMX 03, a North Platte, NE-Laredo, TX train, although the symbol lets you know that this is likely traffic that is bound for Mexico.

I shot this train across a bright green soy been field at Menoken Jct., on the northwest side of Topeka, KS.
