UP M-PRAL with an ACe leading. Two (what appear to be newly rehabbed) RRV&W GP38-2. Never before this shot had I heard of RRVW and this trailing power was a total surprise catch. These locos sure looked sharp. RRVW 4401 and 4402 Seth- Date: 08/14/20 16:56 Re: UP 1996 "Southern Pacific" Heritage and more Author: sethamtrak UP C-NAOK heading north to Oak Creek, WI with UP 1996, the Southern Pacific Heritage Unit leading the way.

I was able to infer Wisconsin from the PRAL symbol, and when I saw the coal splitting off for Oak Creek I think I know where CP-NORMA is. It's either in St Francis, WI or over by Lake Forest, IL, but I couldn't quite tell which. Date: 08/15/20 20:48 Re: UP 1996 "Southern Pacific" Heritage and more Author: koloradokid sethamtrak Wrote:

I thought thes SDs couldn't load coal, lacking proper controls for sloooow speed. RRVW units are former Kennecot GP39-2s. > RRVW units are former Kennecot GP39-2s. TheDieselShop.us says 4402 started life as a New York Central GP40 that was later deturbo-ed to become part of a group of "GP38-2's" Helm long-term-leased to Union Pacific. That would explain the three radiator fans and paper air filter box, which a factory GP39-2 wouldn't have. The 4401 has the same features. https://www.thedieselshop.us/RRVW.HTML |
