UP 1111 resting in Yermo Sunday
Author: oyw

Here is a roster shot of the infamous UP 1111 tied down at East Yermo, CA, taken yesterday around noon. After suffering through tagging during a recent visit to the LA basin, the unit appears to be mostly touched up. I'll leave the comments alone, I was just happy to get a shot of it.

"Powered by our furloughs."  I personally find this locomotive to be tacky and offensive.  If it had been introduced during a different time period, when traffic was booming and employees were valued, it would have been something to be proud of.  Instead, it was released at a time when furloughs are near record highs and morale is near record lows in most places.  It was bad timing, to say the least.  A blatant, intentional slap in the face at worst.

I agree, I find the engine disgusting even though it's a handsome paint scheme.

As for myself, it's not so much that companies have to cut back in hard economic times to stay in business, and yes, there is pain for the employees; but at the UP, it's their all out greed drive that to try to maintain their record profits in these hard times.  Their greed driven PSR is seriously damaging the company, its employees, and their customers; all for short term profit and stock market gains, all of which will be temporary as this comes back around and kicks UP into the abyss.

Too bad the 1111 wasn't on that train in KC this morning.

NIce shot.  It appears the painter studied and synthesized the propaganda posters of the Chinese Communist Party,  North Korea,  Japan in WW2,  U.S. Works Project Administration, and Nazi Germany quite well.

Almost 12,000 furlough and 5000 motors parked. But my stock is doing well.

Yea for the short term. Good luck when it all falls apart. Don't believe me, look at the damage done to CSX and NS.

That's what I noticed the first time I saw it.
