Train just left tracks at Santa Fe Jct in Kansas City. Up on the trestle . . . right in front of Virtual Railfan cameras.

Wow that crew got really lucky... brown pants today indeed

I just rewound to 7:49 and watched it happen. The gentleman in the silver Subaru also got a good video of it

I'm sure the large cranes are on the way to get the 2 locomotives and cars off the bridge

Very fortunate they were on the south track. Otherwise the results may have been quite different.

So if I am interpreting what I am reading correctly, there is a switch on the bridge.

That switch may or may not be involved in the cause of the derailment.

Question: Why would the RR install a switch on a bridge if it at all could be avoided?

There are two routes that converge and diverge at each end of this long bridge and cross over is needed for universal access to each route all on one really long curvy bridge.

 Kansas City Terminal RR, maintained by BNSF. When I retired this was 30mph track. KCRW287

At 7:15pm, a combination you don't often see this far south in the foreground and the first autorack removed in the background.
