Rio Grande 1989 Heritage in California
Author: west

Rio Grande heritage unit 1989 led the UP's INPOA train into Oakland today.
Here's two shots at Newark, CA. Coming off of the Centerville line and heading
north on the coast to the port.

Very nice photos, and a nice train to have on the Altamont route.

Nice catch Don.  Looks like you had some blue skies for once.

In the not too distant future, UP freights taking the Niles Canyon route will stay on the old WP tracks thru Niles, all the way to just past the Hayward BART yard, then take a new transition track to the ex-SP Hayward line.  This will be faster and more efficient that the current, convoluted routing via Niles--Centerville--Mulford--Oakland path.

This was the first day in weeks when the sky here was actully blue !   Smokey brown - gray and even black
in the recent past weeks.  Thanks to all the firefighters for getting things controlled !
