Yeah, we get it.  Tri-weekly service on Amtrak long-distance trains sucks.  But a minute-by-minute count of which states have an Amtrak train in them doesn't do much.  If every long-distance train was still daily, how many states wouldn't have an Amtrak train right now?  Many states only have an Amtrak train in them for a few hours each day, like Idaho for example.  Nebraska would only have them at night for the most part.

Or Barstow where the conductor gets off and says, "Why'd we stop here", some nights the principal passenger
traffic is BNSF deadheads.

Maybe they would get more passengers if they were more reliable.

Poor Amtrak, the other night they were 15 miles out from Flagstaff, bit late when an EB loses an air hose West of the
depot. By the time the DS quit running around the EB, Amtrak limped in nearly 4 hours late. Took them about 2 1/2 hours
to change out the air hose. Now the report, at least on the Souithwest Chief, is that rooms/roometes are all sold out,
coach is nearly sold out and ATK doesn't want to increase consist size. Somewhere in a MAD magazine issue this all
makes sense.

The senators from Hawaii are too busy trying to explain the some hundred million cost overruns on the Honolulu
light rail system.

It's no worse then many other transit projects.

The Boston Central Artery project was primarily a highway project, not a transit project.

DS10 that night should've sent the freight and no.3  instead because if there weren't any other westbounds, 3 does his station stop and is on his way and things would've been a lot easier, I bet the Amtrak Crew died no thanks to what actually happened and who knows when the busted air hose on that auto rack was fixed!

As a certain Randal O'Toole would say there is never anything wrong with a highway project, only transit.
