Stored Locomotive Sites
Author: steveandrews

Hi,

Does anyone know where the Class 1 Railroads are storing power?
Are the locos visible from public property?
I am particularly interested in sites in the mid-west.

Add Marysville, KS with a long string of power visible from the US hwy 77 overpass on the south side of town, and the US hwy 36/77 overpass on the west side...

Not in the Midwest, but Grand Junction, Colorado has many, many stored UP units.

UP in Tracy, CA, right beside "F" St., easily photographed from the public street, around 40 units.

Both BNSF and UP have storage lines in Topeka, KS.

I was there im March to meet and check up on my wifes elderly grandparents. Quite the family dysfunction, but her grandparents are super cool.

The UP ones I think are over by the military base and the BNSF ones are close to the Topeka shops. Only wish I could have seen the BNSF shops.

That was about three weeks ago. Check Google Earth in Galesburg, just west of Linwood Rd and Route 34. Check the satellite image. There are two groups of stored loco’s that have been there awhile. Lots of odd power in every BNSF paint scheme. Even a Smurf back there. Just watch for Hill Correctional Center. They’re less than thrilled when visitors wander around the fence line by the tracks.
