Western Railroad Discussion > Feast or famine kind of dayDate: 10/21/20 22:22 Feast or famine kind of day Author: oyw I had a mixture of feast and famine last Saturday (10/17), going as far as Cajon in the morning where the train count was low and uninteresting, the only highlight was visiting with friend and TO member Atsf814. By 9AM I was outta there and heading for home by way of Colton when I heard UP 3034E getting underway after being stopped in the yard with some sort of PTC problem. I then pointed my car for San Timoteo Canyon.
1) Not wanting to make it a long chase, I ended up waiting at the Eastside Ranch crossing near El Casco. 2) Looking good, I went for one more “nose-on” shot a couple of miles east. 3) Content and heading for home again, I met up with a struggling eastbound manifest led by UP 8766 near the Live Oak Canyon Road crossing. Turning around because of the second unit, the train itself was also interesting with a large cut of all boxcars on the head end. Date: 10/21/20 22:25 Re: Feast or famine kind of day Author: oyw 4) That second unit was Ferromex SD40-2 3173 in an unusual red and gray paint scheme.
5) Heading for home once again, I heard a unique number, BNSF 607E, leaving San Bernardino so I decided to get greedy and take the long way back through Cajon Pass. A fast moving train, I had to go to Alray for a decent shot. Unfortunately, I’m not sure it was worth the bother as it wasn’t very clean. 6) Looking the other way, what looked like the BAR-Daygo with clean leader 6727 passing through where Tunnel 2 was once located. I finally arrived home shortly after 12:30PM, kind of a weird day but I suppose it was worth the bother. As always, thanks for looking. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/22/20 21:08 by Brian_P. Date: 10/22/20 06:11 Re: Feast or famine kind of day Author: 3rdswitch A pretty nice bunch. Was kind of unusual to see that 600 series out there leading. Ferromex was good catch. Interesting it's a dash two with brake cylinders for each wheel.

Date: 10/22/20 07:40 Re: Feast or famine kind of day Author: Valleyman PTC problem as noted. Nothing to due with the performance of the unit. By the way most of the crews I’ve spoken with, like the units mechanically. Best part is how quite they are when operating.

Rich Date: 10/22/20 09:00 Re: Feast or famine kind of day Author: SD45X Interesting -2. Whose builder plate is on it? Doesn't look EMD. Also no contrasting colors on the handrails ends.
600s were castrated into C4s a while back and are all updated to lead. Still rattle and shake your lunch off the desktop:( Date: 10/22/20 12:26 Re: Feast or famine kind of day Author: TheNavigator Nice catch with the Ferromex standard cab. Don't think I've seen that paint scheme before.
