MP Signals Replaced NA Junction, CO, 21 Oct 220
Author: cozephyr

BNSF 5816, ES44AC, moved eastbound (southward direction) Black Thunder Mine, WY, to Amarillo, TX, coal load passed NA Junction, CO.  The Missouri Pacific installed tri-light signals were retired (turned away) replaced with new BNSF signals.  NA Junction is about 5-miles east of Boone, Colorado, 21 October 2020.  Rear DPU was BNSF 6034.

Colorado Pacific's track foreground (ex-Missouri Pacific Towner Line) has a switch but no frog installed at NA Junction.  New Colorado Pacific siding being built to hold 100- to 110-car trains is under construction east of this location October-December 2020.

I thought they were going to rearrange the turnout so the former MP would be the curved side??  When we rode the passenger train to La Junta, that was one rough frog going east.  It pulled hard to the right.  I am surprised they haven't had a derailment there.  Would be a doozy!  And yes, those passenger rides were in 1972!  Interesting that you can't see any evidence of the original SF track crossing the MP line.

Could still happen that way as the switch I thought was to be replaced.  BNSF continues to make improvements along that section of BNSF's Pueblo Subdivision.

BNSF engineer mentioned NA Junction signals; =12pxNo longer a Diverging Clear.  Now a clear over red.
