Western Railroad Discussion > Toto Tuesday: EMD Sunday on the KP

During a lunch date this past summer, I was surprised to stumble into UP train MTPTP on a Sunday run to Junction City, since it usually makes the run on Saturdays, after going to KC the rest of the week. Before dinner, and in much better light another all EMD consist came west on the KP, leading an empty grain train. It was a hot day in the Kansas heat but I made a few attempts at photography.

1) UP 532 has 5 cars in tow at the east switch to the siding at Wamego, the two flat cars loaded with sheets of steel are for Caterpillars plant here.
2) Having picked up 3 empty flat cars on the rear of the train, the 532 is pulling back onto the main.
3) West of town, the MTPTP is rolling west again at Bluebird Road.

4) It's pretty rare for me to find a clean leader, evening light, and time at my disposal, but with text message intel in hand, I ventured west of Manhattan, where I live to 56th Avenue to shoot UP 3090 leading the 2GSSPDK-06, a grain shuttle from St. Paul, MN to Downs, KS via the Kyle.
5) I got the train again east of Chapman at a private crossing.
6) Here the 3090 rounds the curve at Detroit, that's old US 40 at left.

These are really nice. I like the clean leader and how you framed each image. #3 is the winner IMHO. Thank you for sharing.

Nice shots.  Hard to beat the great looks of standard cabs and baby wings--#2 is real nice as well as the Detroit view.
