Man.  I soon as I saw those tank cars go off I would put the pedal to the metal and GTF out of there.

Photo of the derailment. With the switch right there, makes me wonder if some wheel picked it.

I doubt that:  the video shows the tank cars - the last ones to derail - are going "out" the switch, not "into" it.  Wheels won't pick switches unless they're going "into" the switch points.

Wow, what a video. The person didn't know better, he was mesmerized, like people shooting tornado's. This is joint track with UP (former MP) so more than just KCS involved.

Video shows it coming into the switch.  Picked a point maybe?  Regardless, it will be amess to clean up.  And I'm guessing the piece of long curved/bent rail has a log of energy stored up in it.

You gotta be kidding me.  Sh!t was piling up in every direction by the time those tanks in the video were accordioning out into the road.  Makes no difference which way the first picker went.

If you notice in the video, the train is going in a facing point move at a control point. You can see the house to the right in the video. Also, the tank cars are the last to derail which are to the rear of the scrapheap. Forget all the other switches in the still shot, it happened back at that power switch, or something happened at the diamond and was drug through the power switch.

(Emphasis added)

It wouldn't be the first time that a wheel or axle breaks while going over a diamond.

They were too far back in the stack, this time.

They're still center beams, they have to be blamed. It's the law!
