Union Pacific 8928, SD70ACe, led eastbound EC-5 track defect detector car named William E Wimmer across the UP's Limon Subdivision 11 November 2020.  Train came from UP's 36th Street Yard, Denver, Colorado, and ran to Sharon Springs, Kansas.

Video was west of Strasburg, CO.  NO sound video.

I dunno......somehow Sperry cars are still running, and UP I guess has given up on these being self-propelled.  The Reading was able to solve the signal shunting problems of a single self propelled car...so idk if thats the issue.....

The claim is that they pull the car with the engine as it keeps the car quiet.

They still have to run the generator for power to run the equipment.

On the UP if you have less then 12 axles you have to approach every crossing prepared to stop until crossing is seen to be working. With 13 axles or more you can go max speed.

Has nothing to do with being to loud or being broken

Thanks for clarifying! This shows the street explanations are often lacking and incomplete. Too loud didn't make much sense to me as all trains make noise! Thanks again.

This train came from East of me last week as I chased it West aways but didn't get a good pic. Today, Thur, it came back EB on the KP thru Ellsworth, KS around 2:30 this afternoon. upkpfan

Thanks for sharing; it's not the kind of equipment we see every day.
