Lots and lots of boxcar traffic still headed out of California--which shows the ex-SP is still a bocar railroad.  Canned fruit, canned vegetables, wine, tomato products, refrigerated produce, etc. all heading east.  The UP can be very thankfor to all the shortlines that drum up that business.  Just the West Side Line and West Valley Line alone nearly generate a train per, not to mention all the other plants along the UP lines, and in the Modesto area.
