Couple other eye catchers that were in town within the past few weeks... Old meets new so to speak? BNSF ET44C4 3690 built 9/20, and 24 years senior, BNSF C44-9W 1020 built 10/96.

Almost forgot what those looked like inside, it's been almost ten years. I spent countless thousands of miles on those, the GE's mostly. It's like seeing a picture of the bedroom in our old house!

I had almost forgotten what they looked like.  It's been 8 years for me since I was in a cab. Gee, time flies when you are having fun.

Is it my imagination or are the EMD cabs bigger than the GE one's?  Nice series, Robbie, thanks fo posting.

The third seat in the 696 does look like a tight squeeze for the knees, especially compared to the 8832!

Sharp eyed RRers will also notice that these older units for the most part are relegated to trailing unit only status... No PTC, no inward facing cameras, just the way the RR gods intended, good old fashioned horse power!

Too bad the computers or smart phones you're viewing these images on don't have Smell-o-Vision, they certainly smelled like 20-25 year old locomotives.

* And for some reason that regulating valve on the edge of the desk of the 696 makes my right knee involuntarily twitch every time I look at it.

Had a 600 leaving Wellington eastbound one night. I wanted to open the window for some reason. It would only slide back part way, so I got out of my seat and got behind it, wrapped both hands around the front frame, and pulled with all I had. It popped loose, going all the way to the end of the track, and most of the fingers on both hands were drug in between the front window frame and the seal. It hurt, and I couldn't free myself. Were in R-8 with a crossing coming up. I shouted to the conductor to blow for the crossing when we got closer, come over, notch down a little, and help me get my hands out of that window. He was a big guy, but he got his foot up there around me somehow and kicked it forward to close it, and free my hands. I had some sore fingers, and a purple nail, but until I saw the photo, I'd completely forgot about it.

Yeah those old square windows are notorious for jamming up, they're also known for having soft seals too that often let the cold night air in. Bring Duct Tape!

I had the 645 leading a Q NYCLAC earlier this month, was kinda nice running "old school" again, even though I loathe desktop control stands. Sadly I believe they comboed the train with another Q at Waynoka.

Radio's and HTD's must mean there's hope of them leading!
