Snow at Como, CO, 24 November 2020
Author: cozephyr

Denver, South Park & Pacific RR saw many snow storms in South Park area around Como, Colorado, back in the day.  November 24, 2020 about 16-inches fell around  the 1897 built Como Hotel and rebuilt narrow gauge trackage.  Denver, South Park & Pacific Historical Society has rebuilt tracks and brought in numerous railroad equipment.

The replica Colorado & Southern (C&S) 8311 boxcar was built by Uhrich Locomotive Works back in 1997 and in recent years was displayed atop Boreas Pass.  June 2020 the Denver, South Park & Pacific Historical Society was asked to move it to Como, CO, for repainting.  Sure looks good amongst the fresh snowfall.

Video - NO sound-!  David (owner of the Como Hotel and depot) walking his dog Matilda.

In interviews with two different folks who stayed at the hotel in the 1920s and the mid 1930s during the winter there was one common statement; " the sheets were so cold".  A young boy asked his Dad, "where is the bathroom"?  Dad's answer;"open the window".  An interview with a lady who is now 103 years old stated; "the snow would be on my bedroom window sill after a ground blizzard.  The inside of the window"!   When one old timer was asked; "what did you wear in the winter", the answer, "everything".  However, there were no"snow days" at the Como school. The electric did not fail in Como  because there was none during the railroad days. Como memories.
