Report of BNSF having a wreck in Vado NM.  One unit is on it's side and the leader is leaning.  Several wrecked auto racks.  This is on the Belen to El Paso line south of Las Cruces.

There is drone video on that video site.  Search for Deraliment at Vado.  Stacked ujp a few auto racks.

In the video there is a BNSF Police Explosives Detection Unit also labeled as K9.  Is there a problem with explosives on the railroad?

Well, they use them and they also carry them and they need to be ready for "incidents".

From one of the news reports:

"State police said the derailment appeared to have been caused by two railroad ties left on the tracks. Police added that as the dozen rail cars were pushed off the tracks, thousands of gallons of diesel fuel leaked."

Video quoted in op starts out as saying "Train derailed near Southern New Mexico. Seems like someone is not real sure exactly "where" it happened. Southern New Mexico covers alot of area. Western Texas is near Southern Mew Mexico as is Eastern Arizona, just sayin.  Ben 

Love the "weeks to clean up" and millions of dollars damage. IF the cars are indeed empty, not even close to millions of dollars, and, the line will probably be open by SAT. Gotta love the news media.

By the time you add up the cost of the damage to the equipment, lading and the track you might get up to a million or two.

Several of the autocarriers are probably scrap metal now (two of them appear to have been cut in half), there is damage to the signal system, demolished crossing gate, damage to the track (including a switch), damage to the locomotives, damage to the road, diesel fuel clean up and hazardous waste disposal, and some of the cars hit and damaged a building. We also cannot tell if any of the locomotive frames are bent. If any are then that locomotive would probably be scrap metal now.

Downtown Vado. Two units in the dirt and a few autoracks, I'd go with the few Million dollar estimate. Probably already moved to one side and opened up already.

You know the saying, a few million here and a few million there and pretty soon you're talking about some real money.

Estimated at around $1.7 million.

BNSF 9026 & ???? were involved in the wreck.

This is a three year old thread, but I wonder if Mr Luis Angel Rodriguez, 27, of La Mesa, New Mexico  was convicted. If so, did he serve any time?
