I snapped this picture of the USAF 1601 in the carbarn today. Carl has reapplied the footboards and painted them. Now I have to thoroughly wash the engine outside and buff the paint to remove as much oxide as I can. There are no immediate plans to repaint!

Looking good! What were all of the holes drilled in the pilot plate for?

I would make a guess the extra holes on the front plate were for possible buffers if sent overseas.

I wouldn't think they would ever want to set this unit up for MU operation but could those holes in the front plate be for MU air hoses?  Just curious as I cannot think of any other reason for them.

Jim arrived at the museum yesterday to weld up those holes!
