Western Railroad Discussion > Today on the NWPDate: 01/11/21 17:03 Today on the NWP Author: jbwest Or through the mud flats not around them. Business is good on the new NWP and today (Monday Jan 11) a long train of covered hoppers headed west past the Schellville yard boards enroute Lagunitas Brewery and the three feed mills in Petaluma.

Maybe the SMART ppl will learn that freight business supports the economy, and not to be so self absorbed and negative about it. Date: 01/11/21 18:52 Re: Today on the NWP Author: 3rdswitch Very nice catch.
JB Date: 01/12/21 06:19 Re: Today on the NWP Author: colehour Great shot! I have a soft spot in my heart for the NWP. I was very interested in the NWP when I lived in Sonoma County in the 1970s. Of course, then it was an SP property. I just missed witnessing the end of passenger service by a few months. The railroad history of the North Bay counties is fascinating, and I knew people who had seen passenger service on the NWP into Guerneville. In those days, the NWP also operated on some of the former Petaluma and Santa Rosa track.

We (Timber Heritage) have the engines and passenger cars to run an excursion from Samoa to Eureka, but we have difficulty getting support from NCRA and the local governments. Trains will never run through the canyon again, but an excursion around Humboldt would be huge.

Their Keg sales are down since bars and restaurants that serve draught beer are closed to indoor dining, this has impacted their inbound carloads slightly. Along with Lagunitas, there are actually 3 feed recievers in Petaluma - Hunt and Behrens, Willowbrook, and Dairymen's.

Most Lagunitas product is that overhopped soap/pine needles tasting stuff. But I'm glad some people like it so NWP cum SMART gets some revenue too.\ |
