New Year's Eve Freight Cars 1
Author: kevink

As I noted in my earlier thread: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,5170926, I was able to get a lot of nice freight car photos throughout the day. The day started in Franklin Park, IL.
While driving on Green Street along the south side of the CP's Bensenville Yard, I found:
1. DME 80098 a Trinity-built gondola

East of Scott Street, CP train 285 was making a number of moves to put its train together.
2. QC 77143
3. CP 224241 in fresh green paint

More cars from CP train 285:
4. CP 224241 - deserves another angle
5 & 6. A pair of Reading and Northern cars loaded with anthracite: RBMN 7597 & RBMN 7562

Still more cars from train 285:
7. EMPX 4128

Next up are a pair of K+S Potash cars. These are a first for me even though they have been around a few years.
8 & 9. KSPX 5109 and 5102, both are 4300 CF cars from NSC (National Steel Car)

Look for another batch of freight cars in a few days.

Interesting.  I caught the same CP boxcar on CP 246 near Carlisle, ON 2020-11-13.  First and only one I've seen.  Now it makes me wonder if it's a one-off or a new rebuild program.

Can't possibly be newsprint service in this day and age.

rrpicturearchives shows several cars in the 2241xx and 2242xx series painted green like this one. Not sure if they're full series or rebuilds or what

Edit: This site shows just 4 cars in service as of July 2020

Newsprint is just one type of paper. Still lots of things that are printed in big printing plants like Quad Graphics that use paper that comes in big rolls.

Nice shots. I see CP 281 several days each week and each car you saw shows up in its consist as well. I've been seeing the green CP boxcars for a few months now and was surprised by the color choice. But at this point I've seen 3-4 in a train, and see them in almost every train, so there are quite a few out there.
