:
High Winds Impacting Operations across Southeastern Wyoming
Announcement Number: CN2021-2

1-13-2021

To Our Customers, High winds with gusts reaching 80-100 miles per hour have been impacting much of southeast Wyoming since early Wednesday morning. The winds are expected to continue through Thursday morning, January 14. Until it is safe to resume service, trains are currently being held between North Platte, Nebraska, and Green River, Wyoming. Customers with shipments moving through the impacted area can expect delays between 36 and 48 hours as we begin to work off the backlog of traffic once operations resume.

The CZ is doing 26 mph near yuma, colo due to winds i imagine.  Not sure but it may have been held or just allowed 25 mph?   Lost my power :o(  reported it before 1 fixed a few hours later , crews were busy, in terrible weather.

today  1-14 seems some gusts were 60 mph in central KS and NE  with high gusts west of there earlier

1-15 another high wind warning is forecast, models downgraded colo gusts today 1/14444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444

I happened to click on the Laramie, Wyoming, railcam Wednesday and could tell the wind was really blowing. There was a stack train stopped there as well.

Living here in SE Wyoming I can attest to some of those extreme gusts.
It hasn't been quite that high here in Cheyenne proper but up on Sherman there were several issues on I-80 and the railroad is correct in delaying trains rather than risk blowovers and damage to shipments. Wind gusts up to 100 mph did exist and I know we had gusts up to 70 mph here in Cheyenne.

Are there detours over the KP/ Moffit happening, or is that not an option?

If you pull up the Laramie rail cam on Virtual Railfan or Youtube you can rewind to 22:40 last night and see just how bad it was. The stack train sitting in front of the camera was barely visible in the whiteout conditions and when you could see the cars they were rocking back and forth in the wind

The thing is, around Rocky Flats the wind is close to 80 all year round it seems. That is a wind tunnel coming off the Front Range!

As of 10:42 MST a westbound container train was running thru Laramie at about 45 MPH. However, a TOFC westbound is stopped in the yard and another container train has been sitting there.
