UP DASH-9 this clean, means a rbld or a repaint!!
Author: slacks

A month ago at Lisbon IA this UP 7216 was in mid-train DPU service. Since this is an older unit it must have been rebuilt or repainted. The exhaust stack is still pristeen as is the trucks. Me thinks due to the upgraded radiators it has been rblt, but still nice to see a clean unit!

Yes a number of AC4400CWs are being rebuilt by GE and now Wabtec.

Rebuilt in October of last year. UP has a contract with Wabtec/GE to rebuild 980 AC4400CWs

It looks like they did something to the radiators, Extra cooling? I have not seen this before.

Does anyone here remember or know why this UP series of AC4400's was built with extended range high capacity dynamic brakes yet the others were not until they got into the C60/44 convertables?
