Western Railroad Discussion > Greater Southern California freight rail mapDate: 02/17/21 18:28 Greater Southern California freight rail map Author: NS19K Could someone point me in the direction of a current, comprehensive rail map of the greater L.A. area? I've gone down the rabbit hole of Google Maps and quite frankly, the area looks like a big spaghetti bowl.
Thanks Date: 02/17/21 19:11 Re: Greater Southern California freight rail map Author: pdt IDK where there are any current maps, but is it u wanna know? There are only 3 major freight lines in LA, and "the trench" Everything else is lesser main lines (mostly passenger, 4 freights or less a day) and a bunch of branches that are 1 freight a day or less.

would be a good start try zooming into LA it covers the whole worlds railroads i think as well Date: 02/17/21 19:55 Re: Greater Southern California freight rail map Author: usmc1401 Find a copy of the SPV railroad atlas for California and Nevada. Three editions have been printed. The last one is the best in my opinion. Think that these are now out of print.
Date: 02/17/21 21:21 Re: Greater Southern California freight rail map Author: pdt Ive found the SPV books to be better than nothing, but a little behind the times as far as active track is concerned...which is undertandable whentrying to take on the whole country. And Ive found a few "just plain errors", as hove others.
The last issue of the Altamont Press "California Railfans Guide" is still readsonably accurate... Biggest difference is that a lot of CTC has been installed since it was published. Not only does it have today's owners/lines, there is a "Classic Era" and an Abandoned page that provides some quick history.
