Larry Date: 03/02/21 21:22 Re: Washington Eastern Railroad derailment at Almira, Washington. Author: SP8100 The front truck of the WER 3910 and the rear truck of the WER 3776 is completely off the rails at the east switch of Almira Farmers Wheathouse in Almira, Washington. The front truck of the WER 3776 is also derailed, but not shown.
A crane is scheduled to be on site tomorrow morning to re-rail the two locomotives. SP8100 Date: 03/02/21 21:38 Re: Washington Eastern Railroad derailment at Almira, Washington. Author: Roadrailer Spread the gauge, pick a switch?

Roadrailer, Likely picked a kink at the end of the diverging route of a trailing point switch and traveled approximately 6 to 8 car lengths before it picked a second switch was a facing point switch. Seemsto me that the angled ends of guardrails would make them work better. Might even make them more resistant to rolling over, since the rail is not in line?

Guard timbers are primarily to anchor the ties from getting skewed by the rail running. However in this case they served to deflect the wheels in a straight line. Going to four-axle power soley for this exact reason? Date: 03/03/21 15:30 Re: Washington Eastern Railroad derailment at Almira, Washington. Author: cctgm When this was BNSF before Watco the BNSF did not allow 6 axle power on the line due to the curves and rail size and tie conditions and in fact they would embargo the line for a few weeks up to a a month when the spring thaw hit due to the track conditions and the underlying geology of parts of the line
Looks like they had cars on the ground as long with the Units Be safe out there Date: 03/03/21 17:24 Re: Washington Eastern Railroad derailment at Almira, Washington. Author: funnelfan There are 3 ex-CSXT CW40-8's due to arrive in a few weeks to replace the poorly maintained SD40-2's. The CW40-8's were rebuilt in 2017 and sidelined in 2019. The Santa Fe painted GP30 will stick around as Geiger Turn and work train power, and backup for the CW40-8's. The blue GP30 is a basket case, and cannot say if it will run again. They were attempting to sell it, but no takers as of yet.
