Western Railroad Discussion > UP MRVOA at the Brickyard west of Ozol (Martinez CA)Date: 03/03/21 10:36 UP MRVOA at the Brickyard west of Ozol (Martinez CA) Author: AlcoRSD15 I found a new photo spot yesterday. I've never taken a photo here, or seen anyone else's photo taken here. Probably because it's a 30 minute hike into this spot. (I've seen many photos taken off the old Carquinez road, but never at this exact spot) Location is the former Brickyard west of Ozol Yard in Martinez, CA on the Sacramento-Oakland Cal-P line. I watched the MRVOA switch Ozol off in the distance before he departed and passed my location. To get here you take a trail in the Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline. The trailhead is off the old Carquinez Road east of Port Costa. - Eric Blasko

Looks like 15 or so cars of frozen pork/beef on the headend. Allen Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/03/21 11:03 by bradleymckay. The facility was planned several years ago to receive the equivalent of a 72-car reefer train every 2 days. The trade barriers and retaliation that were set up in the previous administration (and may continue with this one) had a major impact on the volumnes going through there. I wonder what the volumes are now?

Trail is on the north side of the road. Hike east on the trail until you get to the hill overlooking the tracks. You can sleuth it out on Google maps (satellite view). - Eric B.

Nathan Posted from iPhone Date: 03/04/21 21:50 Re: UP MRVOA at the Brickyard west of Ozol (Martinez CA) Author: coach That new reefer transloading terminal is very nice, but hasn't seen anything close to its capacity. The few times I've been able to spy it (there's a guard shack there---not good to hang around...), I'd see about 10-12 cars spotted.
