Western Railroad Discussion > CP ExpansionDate: 03/20/21 14:55 CP Expansion Author: jayman Date: 03/20/21 15:55 Re: CP Expansion Author: Pacific5th I wonder if UP did sell they would just be able to transfer there track rights in Spokane to the CP. This whole thing seems pretty far fetched.
Date: 03/20/21 17:37 Re: CP Expansion Author: PHall The only purpose of the old Spokane International for the UP is to connect to the CP.
It's not like there is a ton of traffic originated on the line. Date: 03/20/21 18:07 Re: CP Expansion Author: kyrasmus If they only purchased the Eastport-Spokane segment, this would create an interesting competitive lane for CP, with the option to hand off freight to either BNSF or UP at Spokane.
Date: 03/21/21 02:22 Re: CP Expansion Author: funnelfan Doubt anything will happen now that CP is buying KCS.
Ted Curphey Ontario, OR Date: 03/21/21 09:10 Re: CP Expansion Author: AaronJ Yeah, that was somebody's pipe dream scenario anyway as the UP isn't giving CP a profitable line let alone access all of the way to Portland! Highly unrealistic article.

I can guarantee the UP would create a paper barrier that would prohibit the BNSF from getting the trains. Date: 03/21/21 12:36 Re: CP Expansion Author: SOO6617 Pacific5th Wrote:

If the traffic is going to BNSF, then CP would prefer to hand it off near Vancouver, BC where they would get a longer haul. So a paper barrier wouldn't bother CP.
