Western Railroad Discussion > Along the KCM&O: San Angelo to Fort Stockton

Last weekend (April 3rd) I put the new car to the test with a trip to San Angelo, TX and followed the Texas Pacifico line to Fort Stockton. No trains were found but I still managed to fire off some shots along the way, mainly in San Angelo. The first order of business was a scrap yard in San Angelo that had some interesting finds rusting away, especially various wrecker cranes. Then to a quiet Texas Pacifico yard, the museum, and off to Fort Stockton following the line along the way.

1) The rear of a CSX business car far from home at what is likely it's final resting spot.

2) A better view of the unknown car.

3) Tracks are down there somewhere...as a crane sits above on the property of the scrap yard.

10) With the clutter it was hard for a decent roster of the GP on display out front, but here's a side shot with a wig-wag.

Agree, the low angle and the depth of field get extra points.

All that waste of money rebuilding a GOOD portion of that line when everybody and there dog thought the frac sand business would last forever! I'm sure they still have some on-line business but it can't be much. Atleast they still have better power on the property than Fort Worth & Western!!

I really enjoy shot #4. The rails draw you into the image, the low vantage point only accentuates the towereing crane booms, and the black and white conversion ads to the somberness of the scene.

That's the ex-KCM&O freight depot.  Sorry to see it looking so sorry.

What happened to the gate behind the passenger car? Was standing two days before you shot it.
Bridge is done and welded rail across it. Mostly welded end to end from what I saw last week.
Big Lake we found a SD38 and sand cars. And the road train in town. Look like acid cars on it. Will post when I get some time.

Visited the station at the beginning of march and snapped the usual images.

The representative at the Chamber of Commerce says with the new bridge at Presidio opening, the carrier expects to haul more traffic.

Time will tell.
