Western Railroad Discussion > Chasing the Legendary Lompoc Local- Part IV of IVDate: 05/13/21 22:49 Chasing the Legendary Lompoc Local- Part IV of IV Author: BoilingMan Continued...
Photo 1. I couldn't resist working this caboose in again. Photo 2. Back at Surf and the climb back up to the Main. The East leg of the Surf wye is out of service- it stops short and no longer connects to the Main. Photo 3. They stopped and held in the clear for better than a half hour. I had hopes of an EB freight (Amtrak was still hours away) but it turned out to be a couple of MoW track machines followed this Hi-Rail truck. Photo 4. MoW out of way, the Local crossed the Santa Ynez River and headed home to Guadalupe. Photo 5. A Google Earth view of the Lompoc Branch and the While Hills Branch up to the mine. FIN! BTW: A big thanks to Jeff “goletablock” for his Helpful Hints on the ways of this operation. Thanks Jeff! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/14/21 08:23 by BoilingMan. Date: 05/14/21 08:12 Re: Chasing the Legendary Lompoc Local- Part IV of IV Author: BoilingMan I’m told it’s still there, but l met the local already out of the plant and headed down by the time I got there.
So I never got the chance to look for it. SR My intention was to look over the fence with an aerial shot- but I was too late. Next time... Date: 05/14/21 08:34 Re: Chasing the Legendary Lompoc Local- Part IV of IV Author: usmc1401 Think that the caboose is a rio grande assett.
