Lance, that makes me sick to see.  

This is why such displays by corporations should not be allowed.  They use it for gain, but fail to maintain.

That shouldn't even be out where the public can see it. There's no excuse for that.

Note in particular these two paragraphs:(i)The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.---(k)The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
 

A good place to start on correcting this might be the American Legion or any number of veterans' organizations. When the flags first appeared on the engines, right around 9-11 as I recall, The American Legion kept a pretty close eye on them and made sure they stayed presentable. Just a thought.  

BTW, in possible defense of the engine's appearance  it almost looks like a turbo fire got away and cooked the sticker off the engine. No doubt it's time for the paint shop for that engine.

I agree 100%. UP should just go back to the prior clean paint scheme. And PLEASE add silver trucks!
 

I have a DVD of the movie, "A Christmas Carol."  On the Christmas eve that is 7 years after the death of Jacob Marley, Bob Cratchet looks out the window and notices their "Scrooge & Marley" sign is very worn and the name "Marley" is hard to read.  He asks Ebenezer Scrooge, "I was wondering, sir, if you might have Mr. Marley's name removed from our sign."  Mr. Scrooge dismisses the idea with his terse reply, "Time will erase it at no expense to us."

I agree 110%! Back when UP's engine trucks were a standard silver the RR had a level of visual class that damn few other RRs could approach...

Yes.  But the first amendment protects citizens against government action or regulation of speech, religion or the right to peaceably assemble and petition the government with grievances.  You don't think that UP is intentionally desecrating the flag for some sort of political purpose, do you?  

A tragic event caused this damage to what used to be UP's proud display of the flag. Now victimized by the PSR and Wall Street greed the board maybe in fear of retribution from the assholes of Wall Street. The First Amendment protects your right to free speech. If it goes to the paint shop kudos to UP, if it doesn't then they do not give a FRA (Fat Rat's Ass) about the nation, veterans or the general public.

I never thought I would ever read such claptrap on this website. I guess living in an isolated, damp and chilly sod-house can lead to such delusions. And yes, "Amtrak Joe" won, so it's time to get over it... 

All they need to do is park it in south-central L.A. overnight and the entire locomotive will quickly get repainted for free.

Looks pretty burned to me. They just didn't remove the ashes.

I will listen to pret near any viewpoint. IF it does not include desecretion of the Flag.
Desecrate the Flag and I will become astonishingly violent.
Please, Union Pacific, rectify this situation. Promptly.
