Boys will be boys!
Author: funnelfan

Some teenage boys had to scramble from the tracks on the ex-MILW Pony Truss bridge over the St Maries River in St Maries, Idaho when the St Maries River RR SW1200 #501 blew a warning. The switcher was returning from the Stimson mill on the east side of town to go work the Potlatch mill on the west side of town. I'm sure this is a scene that has played out from the days when the first Milwaukee Road steam locomotive rolled into town. The area around the bridge remains a popular swimming hole. Was riding Amtrak from Portland to Seattle some years back.Pretty sure we were near Kelso. We were really haulin when the driver plugged it.Turns out there were a heap of kids out on a bridge jumping into the water. The smell of breaks remained for the rest of the journey.
