UP's latest railfan shiny object, UP 1979, leads the MDMEW 06 across Cypress Creek, on final approach to Houston at 2123 this evening.
It was a fitful wait for this train. It departed Hearne, TX, just over 100 miles away, about 2200 last night. Due to Houston terminal congestion,
the train was held out at Wade, TX, barely 35 miles south of Hearne. It finally got back on the move just after 1800 today.
Fortunately the weather was pleasant and my wait wasn't too long this evening.

You literally scared the life out of us with that flash Mr. Pierce lol. Great shot though..been looking to see where it would get posted.

Great shot Robert.   100 miles in 24 hours - that's a heavy dose of PSR.

I was just wondering what the crew must think when all those fashes go off in the night.  Now I have a bit of an idea!

Just kind of catches you off guard with everything going on inside the cab..there was a guy in a red truck taking pictures of us at points along the route starting at Wade so the picture takers were expected..just didn’t expect that flash going over the creek lol..we were focusing on our speed and a crossover at the control point up ahead.

This is really nicely done.

As far as startling crews, a courtesy/warning flash as the train approaches helps with that, so that the "money" flash isn't a total surprise. My lighting system, at least, recycles fast enough that I can do that.

Sounds good, but I'm curious how that is any different than just one flash, or cause any different reaction by an unsuspecting crew? Doesn't add up, except maybe to make the photog feel better...

I had the same thought.  Very well done portrait of the locomotives
