Big consist on CP train 475 in Eastern IA.
Author: AndyBrown

The railfan alert system was on point this morning; thanks to my friend Erik for the heads up on CP train 475 out of Ottumwa IA this morning.

1.  Train shown here on the Iowa River bridge at Fredonia.

2.  Heading in at Letts to meet 474.

3.  Backlit meet shot.

4-5.  Going away shots at the New Yard south of Muscatine.

6.  Closeup of the wrap unit.  Orange handrails prompted speculation from my friend Tracey that maybe it's a Milw heritage unit.

Thanks for looking!

Andy

Could be a MILW hertige unit. Could be a scheme for CPKC. A suspect the former because I think we all learned our lesson about repainting engines in a merger scheme before it's approved. If it is an MILW hertige unit, we could be looking foward to hertige units representing:

CP Multimark
Soo Line
Minneapolis, Northfield & Southern
Milwaukee Road
Delaware & Hudson
Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern
Central Maine & Quebec

If there are any I have missed go ahead and add to the list!

A Milwaukee road unit would be great.... but Milwaukee road units didn't have orange handrail stanchions...

ARe we really sure that is what it is?  Didnt we learn the lesson of the SPSF merger years ago to not paint in merger if not approved?

At the very least, if there is a new merger scheme, I hope it’s not mainly orange like BNSF.

Believable rumors on Facebook are that it's to commemorate "Orange Shirt Day." which is a Canadian day of recognition (Sept. 30th) of the damage caused to Indigenous families by well over a hundred years of forcibly removing Indigenous children from their families to attend "residential schools" where it was hoped the children could be assimilated into the European way of life.  The residential schools program is now widely believed to have been a complete disaster.
