Western Railroad Discussion > CP 6644 Solo Leading in OttumwaDate: 10/19/21 21:35 CP 6644 Solo Leading in Ottumwa Author: Agent Yesterday, I was able to catch Canadian Pacific's D-Day remembrance locomotive as it led a southbound train into the yard at Ottumwa, Iowa.
1) CP 6644 leads train 474 across the bridge from Turkey Island to the (railroad) south bank of the Des Moines River. 2) The SD70ACU is the only unit on the front of the train. 3) 6644 approaches a searchlight signal as an old telephone pole still stands beside the track. Date: 10/19/21 21:42 Re: CP 6644 Solo Leading in Ottumwa Author: Agent 4) 474 stopped here for a bit for the conductor to throw a switch.
5) A shot of just 6644. 6) Passing the searchlights. Date: 10/19/21 21:47 Re: CP 6644 Solo Leading in Ottumwa Author: Agent 7) 6644 just before it reaches the crossing.
8) The front of 6644. 9) More of 6644's Spitfire-inspired paint scheme. Date: 10/19/21 21:54 Re: CP 6644 Solo Leading in Ottumwa Author: Agent Date: 10/19/21 21:58 Re: CP 6644 Solo Leading in Ottumwa Author: Agent 13) There was another switch the conductor had to throw.
And now for a few freight car photos. 14) A trio of loaded Iowa, Chicago, & Eastern flatcars. 15) A Southern Pacific autorack. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/19/21 22:00 by Agent. Date: 10/19/21 22:05 Re: CP 6644 Solo Leading in Ottumwa Author: Agent There was some variety in the number of reporting marks in one line of coil cars.

Thanks for the super excellent photo posting. ALLEN Date: 10/19/21 23:30 Re: CP 6644 Solo Leading in Ottumwa Author: pbouzide Great catch of the DDay unit.
i was a little confused about the conductor needing to hand throw switches to line the siding. Does the Begin CTC searchlight not govern the siding? Date: 10/20/21 08:03 Re: CP 6644 Solo Leading in Ottumwa Author: texchief1 Nice shots!

Correct. The CTC is for Rutledge Hill and does not affect the Ottumwa Yard. Nice shots, thanks for posting. The CTC begins here for the diamond crossing and siding on the north side of the town. Since this is a southbound train, it is leaving CTC. |
