F unit Friday . . .

.   .   .   with the posts below concerning the former Rock Island KCS crossing in Howe, OK. Here, eleven years ago, taken from the old Rock Island right of way at Howe, OK, KCS's business train was northbound at CP North Howe.

The Southern Belle and Super Chief liveries were stunning. They far outranked any airline or other railroad paint jobs.

IIRC both designs were products of the EMD Styling Department. The Southern Belle scheme has many of the "standard" EMD styling cues in it's design.

Nothing more beautiful than an F unit in s old-time full-scheme of the early days, before simplified paint schemes replaced them.  Had the Rock Island Lines been still rolling this line in those days, they would have been dressed in maroon and silver for passengers and red, black trimmed in white for freight.  Gone are the Good Ole' Days!!  Just hoping KCS keeps these special units in their dress forever.
