Western Railroad Discussion > Artificial Intelligence and railcar inspectionsDate: 11/30/21 17:34 Artificial Intelligence and railcar inspections Author: Lackawanna484 The trade publication CIO has an infomercial on a product which purports to conduct inspections of rail cars as they pass the scanning point. They claim 120 cars may be processed per minute with high speed scanning and deep computer server capacity. It sounds great, with checks of many different hoses, wheel sets, door positions, etc.
In a broader view, the railroads already generate oceans of data on tractive effort at various points on the railroad for different loads, different locomotives, different engineer styles. It will be interesting to see how that reservoir of information is eventually put to work https://www.cio.com/article/3618847/ai-at-the-edge-keeps-trains-on-track.html Date: 11/30/21 17:40 Re: Artificial Intelligence and railcar inspections Author: midwest Oh this is an easy one! It will be put to work to eliminate jobs!
