Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF H1 Leaders Are Back!Date: 01/14/22 01:04 BNSF H1 Leaders Are Back! Author: slug96 As traffic volumes increase, BNSF has been installing on their 900s and 1000s series Dash-9s. As PTC is now a requirement for lead locomotives, it has been a nice sight to see these ageing locomotives get one last chance to lead trains on the rails they used to conquer. Earlier this week, BNSF's Alliance, TX to Stockton, CA Z-train (Z ALTSTO7) had BNSF 987 leading. With a NS AC44C4M and BNSF ES44C4 trailing, this short Z-train races westward across the Seligman Sub. Here are some shots from Cherokee and Hackberry.

JG Date: 01/14/22 07:34 Re: BNSF H1 Leaders Are Back! Author: Fr8engineer I think this is one of the best schemes for a Dash9 to ever wear. They may look a little ratty these days, but it's nice seeing pictures of them leading again. I live on the east coast, but I visit BNSF-land a few times a year. I haven't seen an H1 Dash9 lead since 2015. In June 2021, I was in the PNW and it seemed like every train had an h1 Dash9 trailing in the consist.

It's called pool power or one railroad is paying another railroad back horsepower hours. Proud Foamer OAKLEY, CA Date: 01/14/22 19:29 Re: BNSF H1 Leaders Are Back!
