The Winter Park Express Returns!
Author: mojaveflyer

This morning marked the return of the Winter Park Express, previously known as the Ski Train. It will run Friday - Sunday through March. Last year's train was cut short by the virus attack that was spreading across the country. Nice to see it return! It runs from Denver Union Station to the Winter Park Ski area on the week ends.

Photo #1- The Express approaches the 80th Ave grade crossing in Arvada, a western suburb of Denver. That's the Denver skyline in the distance.

Photo #2- The Express crosses the east switch Leyden, the first siding west of Denver.

Photo #1- I ran ahead of the train after it got by me at Leyden and pulled into Plain, the fourth siding west of Denver. Sun's still not quite high enough to light the train well but it worked for me....

Thanks for looking!

Thanks for those Jim ... I think the lighting actually added to the shots since there weren't dark shadows. Didn't the Ski Train make a stop just west of Highway 93 in the 60's?

Vince, I'm not sure. He made several stops on the way up the hill this morning with PTC problems. Apparently the PTC wasn't linking to the wayside signals requiring stops. They finally got clearance to cut out the PTC so they wouldn't have to stop at all of the signals.

Great images.  Winter Park Express season was cut short in March 2020.  No Winter Park Express in 2021.  Good to see her running in 2022-!

Both the Ski Train and the Yampa Valley (Mail) stopped at Rocky siding off Highway 93 if passengers flagged it going west, or wanted to get off going east.
