A BNSF-MRL Power Question due to recent events.

Hate to be daft here but does the MRL going back to BNSF mean we might see MRL Locomotives roaming BNSF Systemwide?

Im not hip to what all their Motive Power is,but i think they still have a vast selection of stuff we`d like to see everywhere (So Calif,,Cough)

Mind you,,just asking

I would assume Dennis Washington will sell off whatever power he owns outright to the highest bidder. Seeing MRL power elsewhere in the country will likely depend on which RR gets what...

The SD70s and six-axle Dash 2s will likely be kept. Not sure anything else they have is up to BNSF snuff.

I expect the other Washington Group railways, the Southern Railway of British Columbia and the Vancouver Island Rail Link, will probably pick up some of the four axle power.

Probably not what the OP meant, but some years back NS leased some MRL power. I had several of them. Including one night having a pair of SD45’s, one MRL, one WC as my power on a roadrailer.

My belief is that the disposition of locomotives and relling stock has been worked out bwtween BNSF amd MRL; it has just not been announced.

I'm sure they will keep the ACe's but don't expect them to lead. They are already banned from leading with many other foreign ACe's and BNSF 9330-99 account no isolated cabs. I could see the rebuilt SD40/45 that are at dash-2 standards sticking around. I bet most of the old GP's are gone quick.

4400-4408 are iso cab ACes

well if they get PTC in them them they can lead.

What will BNSF do with all the SD-40s, SDP-40Rs, SDP45Rs, and F45s?

Do the SDP-45Rs and SDP-40Rs still have steam generators?

This is mainly just educated guessing, but BNSF would most likely not want or care to keep any of MRL's SD40 (or older) era EMDs. Except for limited switching out of Missoula and/or Laurel Yards, until remaining older generation BNSF motive power eventually filters in.

Along with that, the MRL does/did not operate any SDP45(R) style EMDs... And the MRL sold/scrapped their four F45s several years ago. MRL 290 (their lone SDP40) would again (most likely) be let go. The MRL 290 has not been steam generator equipped for decades.

It has nothing to do with PTC, it's the lack of an isolated cab and the assisocated ride that comes with it, is my understanding.

"Thundercabs" and happy crewmen do not mix and since work place noise levels are a Federal issue BNSF
at least pays lip service to the regulation.

Actally I didnt mind the BN green MRL patches. I just cant stand the BNsf patches. This gives BNsf one last chance to have a F45 for buisness train service, would be nice if they did.

F45s left the property awhile ago, steam gen units usually have ballast substituted

Ok my mistake, looks like all 4 are gone. 3 scrapped 1 sold off.
