Daggett Sunrise
Author: trainjunkie

I was pleasantly shocked at the response to my "Summit Sunrise" photo that I posted here earlier this month.

https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,5397424

Yesterday morning I had another opportunity to witness a spectacular sunrise from the cab of my locomotive at a lesser famous location. I went on duty the previous evening at 1830 on a Q-LACNSA and as we rolled into Barstow Saturday morning the router instructed us to take the train to the first-out spot on Main 3 at Daggett. So with little time left on the DOL clock we took it out there and tied it down. Then we promptly expired on hours-of-service while waiting for the van to take us back to Barstow.

Normally I would have been peeved at having to wait as long as we did to get a van. It took almost 2 hours. But the "business as usual" nonsense in the black hole known as Barstow afforded us the opportunity to witness one of the most spectacular sunrises I've seen in quite some time.

There were just enough clouds in the sky to the east that when the sun bounced off of them as it rose, it looked like a bed of flowing lava hovering above us. I hope ya'll enjoy the image as much as I enjoyed taking it. It was a truly stunning sight.

Beautiful! If you don’t mind I may download that image and use it as wallpaper on my computer desktop. All those red lights will remind me to stop before logging in to Amazon to spend more money!

Well I see things are still the same.  The road men all think Barstow is the land of lost trains while the trainmasters and yardmasters think it is a good operation.  Train Junkie, have some mercy for my heritage!!

Personally, I would still have been peaved to wait that long. I hope trip rates have been adjusted to allow that extra nearly twenty mile round trip as well as making overmiles for the abuse. A beautiful shot though.
