Western Railroad Discussion > Oh Deer Oh DeerDate: 05/02/22 15:52 Oh Deer Oh Deer Author: Agent Back in March, I got a heads-up there was a BNSF anniversary unit on the GALLIN (Galesburg, Illinois to Lincoln, Nebraska) mixed freight train. Just as I hit record when the train appeared east of Agency, Iowa, a herd of deer crossed the tracks followed, eventually, by a couple stragglers. I've seen a few deer run across tracks as trains were approaching, but this is easily the most at once.
Engines: BNSF 9230 SD70ACe BNSF 6111 ES44AC 25th anniversary unit BNSF 4335 C44-9W Looks like the Dash 9 was repainted at one point. You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! On the train, I always see more deer sticking close to the small farm towns than out in the sticks.

It's gotten so bad that cities are authorizing archery hunting seasons within city limits to try and control them. In this care, I found it iteresting they were running from the cover of the woods to the relatively open town site.
Nice video, thanks for posting. Hit one at 45 MPH south of Montrose, threw it clear over in the field. At 2AM one day at Burlington, three deer were eating grass next to the Q steam engine while I waited for my coal load to come down the hill, they didn’t care about anything but the greenery. Posted from iPhone |
