Western Railroad Discussion > Farmrail chase with the proper lead unitsDate: 05/17/22 17:25 Farmrail chase with the proper lead units Author: EL833 A few photos from my 04-14-2022 chase of a Farmrail job out of Clinton, Oklahoma. After some work in Clinton it headed north to meet a job out of Enid to swap trains. I'm glad I made this stop on the way out as the weather wasn't near as good when I passed through Clinton on the return home leg of the trip.
Departing Washita Junction area (Clinton, Oklahoma). Passing the silo complex at Custer City. Passing the windmills a few miles outside of Thomas. Roger Durfee Akron, OH Date: 05/17/22 17:28 Re: Farmrail chase with the proper lead units Author: EL833 Passing through Thomas, Ok
The job out of Enid at Southard, Ok. Lead unit is former B&O. I'm guessing that shanty, utilitarian as it is, is a former Frisco building ? (This line is ex Frisco) Roger Durfee Akron, OH Date: 05/17/22 17:59 Re: Farmrail chase with the proper lead units Author: UP951West You took some quality shots of Farmrail ! Thanks for sharing them.

Date: 05/17/22 21:08 Re: Farmrail chase with the proper lead units Author: CPR_4000 Roger, I don't think the lead unit is ex-B&O unless very heavily rebuilt. D/b blister doesn't match B&O and neither do the radiator grills. Southern 38-2's had long d/b blisters like that but smaller fuel tanks and Blomberg M trucks, and, of course, high short hood. So probably not ex-Southern either.
The Diesel Shop says it's ex-C&NW 4609. No d/b originally, but the anticlimer, radiator grills, and fuel tank seem to match. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 05/17/22 21:12 by CPR_4000. Date: 05/18/22 05:22 Re: Farmrail chase with the proper lead units Author: 3rdswitch Excellent bunch.

The ex B&O reference was for the last photo, the Enid train- it followed the short description of it at Southard. The 2105 is indeed a former B&O GP40, heavily altered, that's been through many incarnations including BN, GATX, MNA, TNER/CORP, GMTX, and GNBC. The painted up 2309 seen in the bulk of the photos is indeed former CNW 4609, altered a bit over the years as well.
