Western Railroad Discussion > Thermopolis WYDate: 06/16/22 17:52 Thermopolis WY Author: PVSfan We spent a night in Thermopolis on the way to Yellowstone (before the floods).
I found the CB&Q depot intact. It appears to be in use by BNSF--possibly for crew changes. I saw a southbound freight there around 9:30 AM. A northbound came through not long after. Wind River Canyon to the south of town is a "must-see." I am reminded of the old publicity photos of a solid tank-car train going through the canyon led by early CB&Q diesels. P.S. Days later I heard a freight go by on the Cody WY branch. Unfortunately I was watching a film at the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center about 12-15 miles northeast of Cody. I did not go out to watch it pass. The tracks are nearby. The line leads to a location across the river from Cody proper. I wonder what businesses are there. Edited 2 time(s). Don't know what BNSF uses the Thermopolis depot for, maybe MOW base. > Wind River Canyon to the south of town is a > "must-see."
