How is the progress going on that ATSF Fairbanks-Morris switcher at SCAM ? I think the restoration crew
has done wonders on that project so far

We have the trucks out and were getting ready to use our Iron Horse portable wheel lathe to cut down some high flanges. In the process we found one journal box stuck tight high in the pedestal. The wear plates had enlarged due to rust and clamped the journal box tightly in place. Next week we will remove that wheel/traction motor combo by using a pancake hydraulic jack to force the journal box out. Then the existing wear plates will either be ground down to the correct dimension or be replaced. Today we also inspected all eight journal brasses. Five were perfect, two had some issues but will work. The eighth one one totally trashed. We ran the locomotive a few miles a couple of months ago and the journal bearings were all cool. That is amazing considering the state of this one. The truck work will probably take at least two or three months.
