The tracks here run mostly west by northwest between Oxman and Pleasant Valley. The sun has nearly fallen behind the mountains as a westbound UP freight struggles up the 2.2% grade of Encina Hill. The tracks cling to the hillside above Alder Creek on the opposite side of the valley from I-84. Tuesday, June 21st, 2022.

(Long ago, Hindman was a siding between Oxman and Pleasant Valley.) Encina Hill is Quartz to Encina (eastbound).
