It was a sunny mild day in Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Lakeside Sub on the Northern Transcon. The high-low was 80-51 so far. Warmer temps on the way. Traffic is at 23 trains since midnight with more on the way. Here are some trains from yesterday and a bit of Traction.

6/22/2022

1. WB 230pm coal train with BNSF 7081-8578-8127 on the point with DPU.
2. DPU BNSF 4225 on same train.
3. EB 324pm empty grain train with BNSF 6739-607 on the pull with no DPU.

5. WB 420pm manifest train with BNSF 6422-6190 on the pull with no DPU.
6. WB 550pm "Z" train with BNSF 7076, FXE 4017 and BNSF 6223-4431 on the point with no DPU.

Ritzville Action
Nice sunny weather with plently of traiifc.  Good to see coal and oil trains running.
That FXE unit certainly looked sharp as did BNSF #8574.

Historic Traction 
19 - Auto on the right is a 1950 Chevrolet
20 - Super scene with the Twin Coach and the PE interurban in the background
21 - Lokks like some attention is needed by that GM New Look.

As others have said over the many months that you have been posting these excellent traction photos from the early 1960's of the LARY and the PE, these have been really great to see.  But I don't recall you explaining who Andy Goddard is/was, and how he came to have all these shots, and then how you ended up with them.  I would enjoy reading about that.

Andy is a bus and rail enthusiast. He has been in a bus club for decades and has acquired thousands of bus and traction photos. We worked together for 25yrs on electric trains he a supervisor and me a train runner. He sends these pictures out every night to his circle of friends. I never know what pictures I'll receive every night, always a surprise. I had so many pictures, I decided to share them on TO with his permission.

Not sure where it originates Brian, but the destination I beleive is Roosevelt, WA. Maybe someone can helps us on that trash train.

No 18 is a real relic from way-back. The 1401 we see here was the fourth Pacific Electric car to carry this number.
Built in Sacramento by Central Pacific, yes the railroad of first transcontinental fame, for the Golden Gate Park & Ocean Shore Ry.
In 1902, old PE, (the one founded by Henry Huntington, nephew of Collis P Huntington of CP fame) purchased 15 out-of-service cars,
3 motors--12 open trailers, from the San Francisco based company. The car that was to become 1401 was one of the open trailers.

On the old PE they became known as the "Golden Gates" and the car was rebuilt in 1904 to a combination passenger & express car becoming
old PE 625, later 1350 after 1911. 1923 saw another rebuilding, this time to a "Single Unit Express & U.S. Mail car". The final apparition occurred
in 1930 when it was renumbered yet again, this time 1401, now a Baggage-Mail Car. It was demoted to box motor status in 1936 which is how we
see it at Macy St Yards, on the near east side of Los Angeles in the 1940's. When it was finally retired and scrapped in 1947 it was said to be
the "oldest operating electric car in the nation".

No 19 is on Seville Ave at the end of the J-Line in the South Gate area of Los Angeles. The trolley wire making the turn from the left
is the turnaround, re-entering Seville and heading back north.

No 20 appears to be in the LARY's Vernon Yard off of Pacific Blvd.

No 22 is another view of the Georgia St Yard of, by the time of the photo, MTA. Apparently the coach has been placed to
obstruct entrance from the first four tracks--the overhead wire has been removed from tracks 1-3. 12th St or 12 th Place,
can't remember which, separated the north from the south yards at Georgia St so the traffic light would have been for
the next lower street, 11th ? All of this has been completely erased.

Brian and Larry,

The trash originates at the intermodal ramp at the Parkwater (east end of Yardley) end of the yard in Spokane.  There is a transload spot in Millwood/Spokane Valley area by a BNSF local that will bring back trash cars to be put with the ones from the ramp at Parkwater.

The trash is put on the head end of the H-SPOPAS to be forwarded to Pasco, Washington.  It is put on some sort of westbound train to it's final destination of Roosevelt, Washington.   Not 100% sure of what train it rides the 80 miles west to it's final destination.

Larry and Brian,

Pasco originates a H-PASROO and has a H-ROOPAS that forwards Spokane's trash to Roosevelt.   I think they might save it a few days in Pasco before sending it west to Roosevelt as it's not a daily train..
