Western Railroad Discussion > Idaho Northern & Pacific RR in the Payette ValleyDate: 08/05/22 05:09 Idaho Northern & Pacific RR in the Payette Valley Author: funnelfan Chasing the Idaho Northern & Pacific between Emmett and Payette. I got a late start for various reasons. And the sun was playing hide and go seek for the first part of the day. But here are several images shown in the order taken. The IN&P operations are a once a week train from Emmett to Payette and back. The crew is on duty around 8am on Thursday, switching around Emmett before heading west. A Lumber Reload, LPG Dealer and Sand Plant comprise the regular shippers at Emmett then it was a straight run to the UP mainline connection at Washoe. There is a scrap yard next to the mainline connection that was the other regular shipper. The crew pulled 3 loads from there before running around their train and pushing it into Payette once they received clearance from the UP dispatcher.
In Payette they traded the outbound cars for inbound cars, 5 empty gons for the scrap yard, 2 empty sand hoppers and a loaded LPG car. After spotting the gons the crew set the HazMat load behind the empty sand hoppers for the return trip to Emmett. I'm not much for photographing trains running long hood forward, so didn't chase the train past Fruitland.
