Western Railroad Discussion > SP 4449's First Appeance in Daylight PaintDate: 08/05/22 11:31 SP 4449's First Appeance in Daylight Paint Author: rattenne To say excitement was in the air would be a gross understatement. It's the evening of April 25, 1981 and Extra 4449 West has just pulled into the Klamath Falls station. The special is on its way to Sacramento and Railfair 81 and the following day will be a crazy one with hundreds of fans chasing 4449 in its first appearance in Daylight colors.

Date: 08/05/22 16:02 Re: SP 4449's First Appeance in Daylight Paint Author: agentatascadero I cannot resist picking one little nit......this is far from the first time this beauty has appeared in Daylight garb, even if it is the first time since her Daylight trim was removed in the '50s. Thus, in regular service she appeared thousands of times in Daylight garb.
If this is too small a nit to pick....so be it. AA Stanford White Carmel Valley, CA Date: 08/05/22 16:16 Re: SP 4449's First Appeance in Daylight Paint Author: wp1801 Great photo in spite of the nit pickers..

Pacing that machine south out of Dorris on highway 97 was like something out of the movie Days of Thunder, but worth it. Remember the crew member invited us up that night for a cab visit while the kept the locomotive spot fire going. Good memories. Thanks for sharing

I just could not resist poking a little fun a your small but real error. AA Stanford White Carmel Valley, CA Date: 08/06/22 12:18 Re: SP 4449's First Appeance in Daylight Paint Author: rattenne Sorry if I didn't pidgeon hole this post in the 'correct' forum. Yes, it's an older pic and its steam. Does that forbid me from posting in the western forum - since it is still a western topic?
Date: 08/06/22 12:38 Re: SP 4449's First Appeance in Daylight Paint Author: agentatascadero Photos like yours turn up in several boards, Nostalgia, Steam, Western, Eastern, and Canadian. Most important is they get posted, which board is less of a concern....to me a least.
I'm not a photographer, so I'm grateful for all who document these scenes. SP steam generates special thanks from me. AA Stanford White Carmel Valley, CA |
